Bataan Death March

Anslee McManus, Senior Reporter

On Saturday, March 4, a number of our AFJROTC cadets participated in a 10 lap run on a 1.4 mile long trail at Valdosta State University in which they had 4 hours to complete. The run was in honor of the gruesome Bataan Death March that took place during World War II, where nearly 80,000 American and Filipino POWs were forced to march 65 miles through the Philippines by the Japanese military. Thousands of fatalities occurred during the torturesome march as they had been starved, beaten, and bayoneted when too weak to continue. Our cadets worked hard in their memorial efforts, and were rewarded with a trip to the Valdosta Mall in the end.
