On Friday, February 17, the Bainbridge Bearcats Varsity Boys Basketball team traveled to Columbus,GA where the Region 1-4A tournament was hosted in the Hardaway Hawks Gym. In the first region play-in tournament game, the Bearcats defeated the Cairo Syrupmakers which moved the Bearcats to play for the region championship. In the region championship game the Bearcats competed against the Westover Patriots. The Bearcats sadly came up short with a score of 39-54. This gave our Bearcats the Region Champion Runners Up award and placed the Bearcats as a #2 seed when entering the state playoffs.
On Tuesday, February 21, the Bearcats hosted the first state playoff game home against the Westside Macon Seminoles. The Bearcats were victorious with a score of 46-43. As a result, the Bearcats moved on to the second round of the state playoffs where they had to travel to Fayetteville, GA to face the Fayette County Tigers on Saturday, February 25. After a tremendous basketball season the Bearcats lost a tough one in the last seconds of the game to the Tigers with a close score of 59-61. The Bearcats’ season was ended as a result of this elimination. Our five basketball seniors this year, Amarion Ford, Vontrelle Ervin, KJ Cochran, KJ Bryant, and Dontavious Broodnax, deserve a heartfelt thank you and a fond farewell. Last but not least, good luck to the rest of our Bearcats, who will be playing on a fantastic season next year as well.
