On February 11, our very own Bearcats participated in the 4A Individual Wrestling Sectionals. They had to travel to Westminster High School in North Atlanta, which is almost five hours by bus. Several Bearcats advanced to the State Championships. They competed against 4A Regions 1, 3, 6, & 7. There were four seniors that placed and advanced. Those athletes were Josh Fillingame, Alex Pearson, Brian Pugh and Malcolm Spann. We asked Coach Coleman, “What do you think they need to do to win state?” to which he responded, “I think that they need to stay consistent with the routine and train the hardest that they can.”
At the GHSA state wrestling tournament on February 15 through 17 in Macon, Georgia, wrestlers Josh Fillingame, Alex Pearson, Brian Pugh, and Malcolm Spann participated and did phenomenally well. Josh Fillingame placed 4th, Brian Pugh placed 5th, Malcolm Spann placed 7th, and Alex Pearson placed 8th. The boys competed against all the schools in the 4A class. Some of them wrestled five people. They stayed three nights and concluded their season.
