On November 13, 2022, the Bearcat wrestling team set out to Waycross to start their season in the “Swamp Duals”, hosted by Ware County. The team wasn’t fully formed at this time, yet they still saw some success in their meet as they had two victorious matches.

Although this was the first meet of the season, head coach Paul Coleman is excited with the promise he saw within his team. Coleman witnessed leadership and camaraderie among his wrestlers and acknowledges that with more meets and experience, his crew will continue to grow.

“I personally think that the group can get stronger, chemistry wise, as the players were coaching each other and showing great camaraderie, cheering one another on,” Coleman plaudits. “This will allow for leaders to emerge while creating a positive energy that we can bring into every meet.”

The Bearcats are looking forward to their future meets of 2022 with anticipation. They will be hosting the Bearcat Invitational on December 17 along with the Region Team Duals on January 7, both of which will be having the BMS chorus sing the national anthem. Coleman is also in the works of having the cheerleading squad join in.

Outside of winning matches and competing, Coleman endorses the importance of coming together as a team. He hopes to give them a chance at having a home away from home, an extended family that his wrestlers can always count on. Juggling wrestling and life in general will no doubt be a struggle for some, but with the right attitude and grit, this season will be a breeze.
